Since my son was about three, he has had small craters in his 2nd to last back teeth, with dark spots in them. I asked the dentist, but he said it was okay, because the enamel was still hard, and they were "just stains" and nothing to worry about. Now he is six and we just went to the dentist, one of the stains is now a cavity! It is barely bigger than it used to be, but slightly larger and deeper than the one on the other side. We are talking about a really small hole here. I'm wondering if it would be better to try and re-mineralize or just bite the bullet and get the hole filled? I think they want to do general anesthesia on him, because they said he needs to have nothing to eat or drink after midnight the day he comes in, and I'm really not comfortable with that.
There is no way I can keep him on a special diet, it's just not feasible for us. I'm willing to try xylitol or cod liver oil supplements, but I don't want to spend a ton of $$.
Advice, please!
