Back pain- Mei Tai vs. Snugli?

I don't have any experience with a Snugli, but I was just raving about my Scootababy on another thread and saw this one. Have you thought about a hip carrier? Your babe is 4.5 months, so probably at least 12 pounds and supporting his head well, right? If so, a hip carrier may be the way to go. I get back pain in all of my carriers (Ergo, Beco, mei tai, wraps, ring sling) after wearing them for awhile (some better than others), but I never get any back pain with the Scootababy. It really puts all the weight on your hip.
If you're not interested in a hip carrier, I do like the mei tai because the straps can be positioned just so - you're not restricted by the shape of the buckles, etc. You can also do a back carry with a mei tai. You might want to consider a wrap-style or wrap-conversion mei tai that has broad straps, to spread the weight better across your back. Two brands I know of (but don't have) are Napsack Baby and Ocah. Here's a link that lists other brands: http://www.thebabywearer.com/wiki/in..._Tais_and_SSCs

What she said! I have used Snugglis and they are AWFUL! My baby and I both found them highly uncomfortable. You can always experience some discomfort when wearing a baby/toddler for really long periods of time, but you will find a Mei Tai to be much more comfortable! Don't give up! Find something that works better for you!
