Is anyone knowledgeable about GPs? The story is that when I moved into this house just over a year ago, the yard was very overgrown, and there was much debris around - an old bike, broken lawn chairs, and a metal rabbit/GP hutch.
Pretty soon, I realised there were two GPs on the loose in the yard. I don't know if they escaped from their previous owners of if they were set loose. In any case, I tried several times to catch them, but was never able to. They are really fast!
A few weeks ago I found one of them dead in my yard - the neighbour's dog had somehow gotten in and killed it. Luckily, yesterday my husband was here and he noticed the remaining GP out in the front where the grass is short. Between the two of us, we were able to catch him!
So I now I have him on my enclosed veranda, in a C&C cage I made, like these.

He has GP food, fresh vegies (carrots, parsley), water, bedding, hiding places and pretty much everything I've researched to give him a proper home.
My question is - I know he should be inside the house, but I have three loud boys. This GP seems very skittish and squeals, kicks and bites when he is picked up, I am assuming form being in the wild for so long. He isn't used to being handled or being around people at all. I am afraid moving him inside with all of our noises and comings and goings will be too traumatic for him.
How can I get him used to us? So far I have been taking my laptop or a book out the veranda and just sitting near his cage so he can get used to me. Any other ideas? I would love to be able to move him inside, and eventually have a cuddle with him, and also let him have some out-of-cage exercise time.
I also planning on getting a friend for him, but I am not sure of when, or how, it would be best to do this.

) but within an hour or two they were snuggeling and enjoying the attention and affection of the children. it did not take them long to recover.
