Receiving blankets as flats?

Would receiving blankets work as flat diapers on a newborn? I have no idea about flats, but really would like to try flats this time.

I was just joking on my DDC that yes, it is possible to be "showered" with too many receiving blankets (I must have got 25 or 30!), and I didn't find them particularly useful for anything. Would they work as flats?

probably.. i've never done flats though. I don't really see why not.
i feel your pain on the too many blankets as gifts.. is there no other thing to give an expecting mother!??
i got some cool wahm pockets that were made out of receiving blankets.

I keep one in my diaper bag as a changing pad/spit up catcher/emergency back up diaper. I have also been known to use them as diapers if I got a bit lazy about CD laundry!

Overall I am not a fan of flats, but I do think they work fine. Another thing you can do is fold them up and use them as pocket inserts. Or, I cut most of mine up and made them into cloth wipes (for baby and me!). I also sewed a organizer thingy with pockets to hang off the side of the changing table out of some coordinating ones.

I don't see why they couldnt be used as flats! My DH (who's from N. Africa) told me his mother used random pieces of old fabric for their diapers. Anything that catches waste works, I guess!

I used receiving blankets as towels. After they've been washed a few times they're perfect.

I used extra rec. blankets for cloth wipes...cut them up and voila. I stitched the edges so they wouldnt fray but its not necessary to do.

sure!

They make great flats! They are also good for pocket stuffers. They wash cleaner and dry faster than prefolds since there's not all that fabric bunched up. I love using them as flats, doubled with no cover in the summer, especially with the cute blankets.

I have a ton of flannel blankets too and I use them as flats. I like them better than the prefolds I have actually.

fwiw, I haven't tried it yet, but my nb ds has such a small butt, I can't imagine getting that much fabric folded up around him! Premie/nb prefolds fit him well right now, so I guess it might just depend on your babe. I should try it, though, just so I can speak from experience and not just guess!

here's a link I found a while back...

Hi, my question would be....would something like that work for my 8 year old at night? I have yet to find something that either fits snug enough or absorbant enough. Its getting to the point where the only option I have is going back to disposable and I do NOT want to. I would LOVE to find something thats absorbant enough for her at night. All of the trainers I have tried in the past didnt help at all. Looking forward to some suggestions. Thank you!

I've never used them as flats, but a couple of my friends did and loved them. So i say, go ahead! I just don't really know about folding them though. Good luck!

Yep. And for tiny newborn butts, I recommend the origami fold.
