Pouch Sling Sizing Advice For Charity Project

Thread Starter
I am working with my local crisis pregnancy center to provide slings for moms who can't afford to buy them and I was wondering if anyone can help me with a sizing question. I will probably be making pouch slings since those are the easiest to use and am trying to figure out what size to make them. I was hoping to do a S, M, L type of thing but can't find any place that gives the measurements for each size. I can find plenty of patterns but each is based off measuring yourself.

Can anyone share the sizing information on their pouch sling with me? If you own a pouch sling that comes in a specific size, perhaps you'd be willing to measure it for me? Or point me in the direction where I could find such information....

Thanks!

What a great idea!

You know what though...I think I'd make ring slings instead. Not just because I guarantee you that some will end up with the wrong size for them, but also because you can adjust a ring sling and get a good safe fit around baby. You can also do upright much better with a ring sling than a pouch (when wearing a tiny new baby). Or maybe make stretchy wraps? Even easier to make...just 5 yards of t-shirt type material that you cut the width to 22-25 inches and done! You don't even need to sew them at all.

I agree with Giselle. I'd do ring slings instead -- no need to worry too much about sizes, and I honestly think they're easier to use and safer, too.

I actually think that pouches are much trickier than they look -- and sizing is everything. One inch too big or too small and it's difficult to get a good fit.

Jan at www.sleepingbaby.net has a very good pattern for making your own ring sling, and it's not a difficult sewing project.
