Is there something that I can eat that will help my baby with her constipation?

I am breastfeeding.

I don't like prunes.

THank you:

Are you exclusively breastfeeding? How old is your baby?

If she is peeing well and gaining weight well (see kellymom: http://www.kellymom.com/bf/supply/enoughmilk-older.html), then chances are she isn't constipated. To be constipated, a breastfed baby has to have formed, pellet-like, hard poops.

Breastfed babies can actually go 2 weeks without pooping and then have a massive, blow-out 'pooplosion'! Seriously - you'll wonder how all that liquidy poop could stay in there for so long! And that can be completely normal. If this is the case for your daughter, then it's probably completely normal - you may just want to carry a change of clothes with you!

My totally breasfeed baby dosn't get constipated, but after a few days he gets fussy and i KNOW he needs a good poo.
Unfortuently for you the only thing i have found that works is prune juice, and it works really well. A large glass in the AM for me and there is a full diaper by evening!
I like prune juice thank goodness. I now drink a large glass every few days.

How long has it been? What was the last poo like? DS routinely went 7-8 days between poos when he was really little, until he was 4-5 months old or so. My diet never seemed to help him much. When he was looking uncomfortable we'd do a warm bath, a tummy rub and if nothing else checked his temp rectally - that always got it going!

My doc said that it is completely normal for young infants not to poop regurally when they are exclusively bf. it is because breastmilk is such a perfect food that almost all of it is virtually absorbed. He would usually go twice a week, like clockwork, on Sunday & Thursday. Just because she isn't going, doesn't mean that she's constipated. And trust me, one day something will change in her constitution and you'll be staring at 4 poopy diapers a day EVERY day wondering what happened and missing the good ol' days!
