Either the translation is really poor or this is a completely nonsensical sentence. Is he saying that nudists normally put on clothing to bathe? What!?!?!

They really need to get someone else to be the PR person as this man doesn't know his butt from a hole in the ground.

I'm really sad that there are so many people in charge of things that are not only discriminatory but also really dumb.

I find it weird that two supposedly Catholic countries are so opposed to modest dressing. I thought modesty was part of Catholic teachings?
lol. I have a feeling a lot of Catholics who are concerned with Catholic doctrine and culture have been groaning about the lack of Catholicity in those countries (and others). When my parents visited the Vatican this summer they observed not just tourists but Italians getting very angry over the modesty requirments to enter the church.

France has been rather unfriendly to certain Christian denominations as well in the past.

JMO, but it seems to me it's not a reaction against Islam in particular, or modesty in particular, but a strange allergy to any sort of outward demonstration of faith. It just happens that at this point in history, Muslims are more likely to outwardly demonstrate their faith by clothing or other practices, and therefore basically have a big old target on thier backs.

.
I think what he was trying to say is they would not allow a nudist to use their pools unless he or she was wearing the swimsuits thier pool rules require. IOW, whether one is a Muslim or a nudist doesn't matter, and it doesn't matter how strong your beliefs are, if you want to swim in that pool, you must wear the type of swimsuit they require.

So he's basically saying discrimination is ok some of the time. Appalling!

Seriously, why is it the government's business what people wear to the beaches, as long as public decency laws are followed. Rediculous!

I thought France was the harshest toward these things, but the response of the Italian officials is far more intolerant. At least the French felt obliged to give some kind of excuse.

To be honest, I kind of understand the impulse to "save" women from the veil. People look at a woman in niqab and think something like...
  1. I would never wear something like that unless I was forced to.
  2. Somebody must be forcing that poor woman to wear it.
  3. Who would force a woman to dress like that? Obviously, somebody who despises her.
  4. She is under the control of people who despise her.
  5. If I were in that situation, I would want somebody to help me.
Without further data, this would actually make sense.

That being said, I like the "burkini" and kind of wish I had one myself.
