poor dd. the last 3 days sge's ben miserable, so gassy all the time. i can hear and feel the bubbles in her constantly.

my diet hasn't changed, i feed from the same breast 3-4 feedings in a row.

could a food sensitivity just now surface??

poor girl can't sleep she;s so uncomfortable. oh, and she;s gone from pooping every day to once a week all of a sudden/ poops were very watery all along and now they are thicker

what should i do???

maybe it is a food sensitivity, but to be honest I kept a food journal and found no correlation with my diet and dd's gas. I was even on the elimination diet for quite some time - I still don't do dairy, gluten, eggs and soy.

it hit me last night that i started an iron supplement (for myself) the same time all this started, going to stop that and see if it helps.

Keep in mind, too, that it's very common after a few months for baby's stooling patterns to change. Babies that used to poop often now might go a week or more and still be normal. As long as the poop is ample when it finally comes, and ranges from yellowish-green to yellow-ish orange, and baby is gaining weight, all is well.

If baby's stool has gotten dry and solid, though, before starting solid foods, I'd suspect inadequate hydration and go back to switching breasts to boost your supply. I would do the same if it seemed like baby had stopped gaining weight, along with the poop change.

And the gas? I think that's often just part of being a baby. All of us are gassy, but we as adults have the advantage of muscle control that lets us pass the gas with ease most of the time. Babies that can't sit up and have immature coordination of their abdominal and sphincter muscles find it a lot harder to get rid of the bubbles. It gets better when baby can sit up.

the amount of gas she's dealing with is abnormal though. she's been spending every waking moment trying to push out toots. poor thing.

so far it's really not any better. she's nursing right now, but squirming and trying desperately to pass gas.
