"UC" feeling in labor, MW-supported birth? - Page 2

When you interview midwives, just be upfront in what you want. We chose my midwife with Fiona because of her experience, and she would have been okay with hanging out in another part of the house and just checking on the baby once in a while. She suggested that my husband catch the baby. While pregnant, we were actually hoping for more support from her, which she was also okay with.

In the end, the midwife didn't make it in time and it was just me and my husband. Next time, I'm hoping that the midwife will just hang out somewhere else but be nearby in case of an emergency.

From talking with doula friends, it seems like the older, experienced midwives are more often okay with being hands-off, while the newer midwives aren't necessarily at that place of trust yet. I have no idea if that's true, but I've heard a few people posit that theory.

Hmm. Around here it seems to me like the newer mws have the idea that moms might like more independence/privacy more than the older ones.

When i met my midwife for the first consultation, i mentioned off the bat...that i wanted to have a UC....what did she think about that? She was so cool she even supported me and said she would offer to be available by phone if needed....i loved her right away.
She ended up coming later in my labor...only did one FT and no BP...and that's it....i pushed my baby out with no help...she was whispering encouragement in my ear...but other than that...nothing more.
She did do after baby care....
Be very up front with your midwife...i often can tell right away if i will click with someone..use your mama instinct....
