We live in the Southeastern portion of the US, and want to get away this Thanksgiving. Can anyone suggest frugal/cheap getaways in Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, or South Carolina for Thanksgiving? We're not tied to doing the big meal, we just need a quick weekend getaway (we have family in town, and we've had a lot of problems with them and would like to avoid the holidays). Thank you.

This book feels good in your hands. The paper is heavyweight, and the illustrations flow perfectly.

Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge/Townsend/Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Parts are way cheesy, parts are way touristy. But, overall, it's a beautiful place, and we always enjoy it. Plus, you can definitely do this trip on the cheap.
Alternatively, there is Asheville, NC. You can visit the Biltmore, tool around a neat downtown area, eat good food, and it's a great town in many ways. They also have a state farmers' market that is open every day except Thanksgiving and Christmas that is fun.

From many years ago living in those parts, you can look into:
Hot Springs, AR
something in the Ouachita mountains area of AR
Mammoth Springs/Caves, KY
Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, AR: http://www.ozarkfolkcenter.com/
I seem to remember a state park near Memphis, TN that rented nice cabins for not too much. That could have been in MS, though.
Have fun!
