I work as a resident director at a university where my DH is a grad student, so we have an apartment in the undergrad dorms.

We had a meeting today about h1n1 preparedness and were told that we're supposed to encourage our students to get vaxed and follow up with them to try to get everyone vaccinated. The nurse also said she would add us all to the "priority list" so we can get the vax early since we live and work so closely with students :

I have a 9 month who is unvaxed...there is no way I or my daughter will be getting this vax - IMHO, this vax is a huge experiment and we are the guinea pigs. H1N1 is still mild at this point and they really don't know the side effects of the vax. I feel VERY strongly about not getting the vax.

So what should I do?? I have two coworkers who are pregnant and it kills me that they'll be lining up for this vax. i want to tell people why i'm not getting it so that maybe they'll think about it before blindly complying, but i'm also concerned about advertising the fact that we;re not getting it in case of scaremongering/hype etc.

What would you do?

I said I would tell people if they asked me and tell them why is they were really interested, but I would certainly not draw attention to myself and the situation. I would not openly discourage others from getting it unless they asked me if I think they should or not. Then I would share my opinion.

ETA. If thepregnant co-workders were my friends i would gently try and have a conversation about this with them. If they were not receptive at all, i would drop it. If they were just coworkers but not friends, I would keep quiet or anonymously drop an informational phamplet in their mailbox

Go with your gut - you don't have a mama instinct for nothing. Listen to your inner self - you are right on this. Don't let them talk you or your daughter into this vax.

I don't know if I could promote a product I didn't believe in, especially if I thought it would hurt more people than it helped. I would definitely try to warn them in some way.
