What to eat with vegetable breads (like pumpkin/squash/zucchini breads)?

I have some left over squash and zucchini and I plan on making a bread with them (the kind that has the consistency of banana bread, not the more floury bread).

For dinner, what would you eat with butternut squash bread or zucchini bread for a complete meal?

Here are some options that are possible: soup and chili.

But, any other ideas?

I'm curious about this as well. Whenever I've had zucchini/banana bread it has been too sweet to eat with dinner. I eat it as a snack with (soy) milk or with tea/coffee.

yeah, my recipes are all too sweet to be eaten with savory dishes. My kids eat it for breakfast and dessert a lot.

I think banana bread would be too sweet for a savory dish also.

I haven't had zucchini bread in a long time so I don't remember if it's really sweet. I've never had pumpkin/butternut squash bread though so I don't know how sweet they are. I thought they might have been not as sweet.

Ok - so maybe dinner's out.

Hmmm....well maybe I could have them for breakfast with something?

Butter? We like butter on our quick breads. Of course, that doesn't help with the meal problem. I would probably make that dessert, and fix a normal meal. My quick breads aren't really dinner material.

The first thing that came to my mind is soup. I'd go with something tomato based, like minestrone, for the zucchini bread.

I think a fresh vegetables salad could also be nice, especially if you spread a soft cheese on the bread.

Also, something like ratatouille or grilled veg. would go well with the breads.

This makes me want to do some baking and cooking.

I've often had breads like that at brunches - perhaps you could do some sort of egg dish? A breakfast for dinner type of thing.

Mmm...now I want some zucchini, banana, and/or squash bread.

Sometimes we have simple chicken salad on zucchini type breads with maybe a fruit salad on the side. This is a "hot day" meal for us. Especially if the chicken salad has something crunchy like cashews or crunchy veggies in it.

They go well with a mess of baked beans or other bean/lentil dish, either warm with butter or schmeared with soft cheese(cream cheese, brie etc)

Soup obviously.

It would be nice with ham and a salad, or with a quiche.

I've done left over banana bread or pumpkin bread as french toast! It's awesome.

My fave way to eat it is with butter and a glass of milk though. :

I really like the salad with beans idea...

I also had the muffins with homemade chickensoup which was also good...
