DS' top front teeth are slightly wiggly but they are both MAJORLY worn. As in, if he tilts his head back (so I am looking at the bottom of his teeth) the bottoms are worn away and I can see red (roots?) inside. It has been this way for over two months.
He has lost two teeth so far. The two bottom ones. They were loose for months and months and his permanent teeth actually grew in quite significantly before they finally fell out. His dentist said the "sharky" teeth were fine for lower teeth because the tounge would push the permanent teeth into the proper location almost immediatley. That is what happened.
Now, the the top teeth are also not falling out! DD is 10.5 and has lost 8 teeth. They were both on the late side of normal for getting their teeth, so I expected them to be on the late side for loosing them. But DS seems out of control.
So, we have an appointment next Monday to get his top two teeth pulled. This was the only appointment his dentist had before school started. What would you do? What are the risks/problems associated with doing nothing? He doesn't seem to be in pain, but the teeth also don't seem to be coming out. DD's teeth took so long to fall out that she wouldn't bite with the front of her mouth for, literally, years and now she really has to be prompted to use her front teeth *ever* (the only reason I care is because she smears food all over the side of her face by trying to avoid her front teeth). Are there some people who's baby teeth just don't fall out on their own (DP had to have several teeth pulled and DP's father had to have *all* of his teeth pulled out because the baby teeth just didn't fall out, as did his father--- but I don't know if this is a real issue, or they just thought it was 50 years ago, kwim).
TIA
