Our sweet Lyra Belle was born at 5:04 am this morning at home. She weighs 8lbs 1/2 oz and 21 inches long (much bigger than Azalea's 5lbs 14.5 oz and 19 inches long). She has a full head of dark hair and pretty dark blue eyes. Big sister Azalea Bliss is quite thrilled with "her" Lyra Belle, talking and singing to her and petting her head.
It was a pretty fast birth. I called the midwife at about 11 saying "I think this is likely it." I snuggled up with DH and Azalea until about 12 feeling Azalea settle and fall asleep, her last night as the baby in the bed. Then we moved Azalea to her bed and I timed contractions again. At about 12:30 we called the birth support team, who all arrived around 1 - 1:30. I was still at 3 cm and -2 station (where I'd been for over a week), very lucid and talking through contractions just fine (though they were 1.5-2 minutes long and 3-5 minutes apart). After chatting for about an hour, some of the support team went home and some stayed, but cleared out to rest themselves and let me rest as well. By 2:30 labor was very intense and we called everyone back. My water broke around 3:30. Azalea woke around 4ish (when I started really vocalizing during contractions). She sat in the room for awhile, and then opted to go downstairs while I was pushing. She came up to meet her new sister right away. We had a stuck shoulder and a "navy blue" head and I ended up pushing to get her out FAST, but she pinked up quickly and is absolutely perfect. I have a 2nd degree tear from pushing without a contraction at the end, though that's nothing compared to my 4th degree tear from my first birth. After our first nursing session and the repair, big sister Azalea joined us for the herbal bath. Everyone else left before 8am.
We're all doing well. We took a short nap (after a night of no sleep), but now I'm wide awake, hungry, and considering a shower.
Lots of pictures were taken, but I haven't had a chance to look at them. I'll post some later.
