After 27 hours of intense (back?) labor, a harrowing hour-long drive to the birth center, and much convincing that I didn't need the Stadol...
Verity Laine Kaylor arrived at 3:23am, Sunday morning, 08.09.09
9lbs 2oz, 20" long, very pink and healthy
I was able to have the non-medicated waterbirth that I wanted using some of the hypnobirthing techniques I learned - I can't imagine birthing outside of water ever again. I delivered Verity about 45 minutes after arriving the birth center, she came up out of the water screaming and pink, I was elated that I did it all without any meds, my husband forgot to take pictures (but did get video of me delivering the placenta of all things.)
Unfortunately, we got home a few hours later and I had to be rushed to the hospital ER in an ambulance due to a severe postpartum hemorrhage, which involved the OB's hand in my uterus (3 times!) to pull out a liter of clots, several bags of pitosin, and Cytotek. It was terrifying. But we are all alright, I'm exhausted and trying to rest and rebuild my blood and strength, the baby is beautiful and chill.
Ironic that my lovely natural waterbirth was followed by all of the hospital nastiness that I wanted to avoid! But, it turned out fine and I am actually feeling 1000 times better that I did a week postpartum with DD (basically an induction.) What an amazing amazing experience.
