I have to wean my son...sniff sniff

Hi ladies. I am beside myself. I have to go back to work at the end of August, and there is no way I can pump at work. I am a teacher who barely gets time to eat lunch.

With that said, I am going to continue the early am and bedtime nursings. What would you suggest I give him while I am at work? He does not proficiently drink from a sippy cup and I don't want to get him started on a bottle. He will be 1 year old at the end of Aug when I go back to work.

Help. I am devastated...

If he is going to be one year old, do you really have to wean him? Why not just nurse in the morning, at night, and on weekends?

I have to agree with the other poster. You don't have to wean him at all. He will be fine with a cup. You might want to take the suck part out so he doesn't get his "suck" there. You might have to set some boundaries but you can manage to express at lunch and be ok.

Start pumping now, if you haven't been already. There are those silent little electronic pumpers that you can wear while you work, someone can probably tell you more. My son really reverse cycled when I went back to work. He only took one 6 oz bottle at naptime while I was away for 9 hours a day. He preferred to wait for me to come home and have his milk straight from the tap as it were. He would nurse much more at night and in the morning. It happens with a lot of babies.

She said she was going to continue with the morning and night nursings.

I would work more with a sippy cup remove the no-spill valve or an open cup.

thats not weaning!

You might be able to pump in the morning and get at least one bottle. I know I can get 4 oz easy in the morning! If you want to keep nursing I'm sure you can find a way! Keep your pump in your desk drawer? It really only takes 15 mins, sometimes less!

I did childcare for a mama who's son pretty much gave up his bottle of bm at around a year, and she stopped pumping during the work day at that point. Last I knew, he was 2.5 and still nursing strong! You definitely do not have to give up nursing at all. You can do it mama!

I do childcare for a kid (started when he was around 1 year) who is now 2, he and my ds are 2 weeks apart, and mom dropped him off at my house, he was there for 8 or so hours and then she picked up and nursed him. He is by no means weaned, but he doesn't nurse during the time she is away, which can be rather long, he does nurse a lot when he is with her.

i would just give solids and water or if he already drinks milk or "alternative" milk in a sippy, open cup, or straw cup when you are not around, and nurse when you are
