So yesterday we were getting ready to leave the house, and I was in my underwear and a shirt holding the lo. My soon-to-be 10 yr old daughter sees me and says "geez, mom you still have a fat tummy." Now I wouldn't have been so offended if this came from my 4 yr old, but a 10 yr old really knows what they're talking about!! The quickest thing that came to mind as the dagger was aching my heart was "that wasn't very nice!". I am offically 1 month pp today, and I guess I need to do a better job on my diet and exercise program!

Have you ever seen a balloon that's deflated? It never quite goes back to it's original out of the bag shape and tone?
Some people manage to get the flat belly back but MOST people will always have a little pooch left after child-birth. You were stretched all out of shape. Skin doesn't go all the way back. It just doesn't. And it absolutely doesn't just a few weeks after delivery!! And the older you are, the less likely your skin will just snap back into place. (I saw you have a 10 yr old, so you're probably not in your very early 20s.)
Might be something to bring up to your 10 year old as well. Realistic expectations are a good thing to grow up with!!!
Ok, off the soap box. Congrats on the baby btw!

I have a 9.5yo and she said something similar to me last week.
"mom how come you still look pg?"
I reminded her how totally BIG my belly was just a short time ago and that everything takes some time to go back to normal.
I think it's part of that 9 year change thing---where they really are separating from you and becoming aware of themselves and their bodies--and how you look in your body. Still not nice though.
It took 9 long months for our bellies to stretch out for our lovely lo's, it's hard to expect everything to be back to "before" in a month!

Not lovin' the belly here either. I think it is slowly going down still but as I am 4w pp I feel like it should have been gone by now. I'm not getting any more of those "but you just had a baby" consolations. I have not had much time to do abs work because DS always seems to wake up right then...
Oh, if I could only fit into my pre-pg pants again!

Yeah, and don't get me started on the ugly cesarean scar and the purple stretchmarks...
Y'know, while I was pregnant I found this website that kept my pp expectations realistic: http://theshapeofamother.com/
I think that the media sells us all a bag of goods in our society about "normal" body expectations postpartum. Yeah it sucks that my clothes don't fit, and I am still wearing maternity fashions. But I'm only 7 weeks out. Things will change, even if slowly, and I have a beautiful baby boy to show for it.

There is beauty in many forms. I got to be a fertility goddess for awhile and now I am a mother.
I refuse to consider an exercise plan this early!
