I lost a filling in an upper molar and have had temp filling in it for too long now. It's starting to really hurt and the pain travels around to the bottom molars also and then back up again. I am waiting to be seen at the dentist but in the meantime am trying to keep infection at bay as well as reduce pain - which is off the charts at times. I finally broke down and got some aleve - which I hate to take, but I am desperate!
The strange thing is there is no swelling or redness - no signs of infection - just pain. I've never had tooth pain before - if there's no sign of infection what the heck is causing it? Exposed nerve or something?
The dentist who put in temp filling months ago said I needed a root canal and a crown - or extraction.
I'm thinking extraction since there's no way I am getting a root canal after all I've read.
Since I'm going to the dental clinic - no insurance and they are the only ones who do a sliding scale fee - I have to be seen as a walk-in as they have a cancellation and it could be days before they have an opening.
What can I do to keep the pain under control and still function in the meantime?
ALSO - What can I expect with a tooth extraction???
Is there anything I can do to make it go smoother before/after?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Sandy
