I was just viewing a starter kit of Thirsties covers and chinese prefold diapers then saw that included in the kit are pins?

Are the pins neccessary?

I used prefolds a lot with my dd and was always super happy with them. I did NOT use pins, only a snappi, which that site would also carry. Way easier and much less possiblity of poking baby, imo. Also, you CAN always lay a prefold in a wrap cover, for sure, but me, i always wanted to fasten it securely. A tiny non-mobile infant might not need super secure fastening, but as soon as they can roll and kick their legs, you may want the dipe done up tightly . And snappis are phenomenal for this purpose.

I prefer pins to snappis because I feel like I can get a better fit with pins. You can always lay the prefold inside the cover too, but there may be more chance of leaks.

i never have used pins, and dont really like snappies, although i do have a few, i dont think you need them unless you have a pull on cover. this is the newborn package that I got when dd was small, i got the proraps covers and they worked great - i have used thirsties since then and still do. i think you can swap thirsties out for the proraps in this package, it just costs a little more. also i think that indian pfs are more absorbant than chinese.

I used only prefolds and Thirsties covers with DD. I never used a pin or a Snappi.

I used PF's and covers with DD2, and I'm using PF's and Thirsties for DS, and I have never used a pin or a Snappi for either. The only time I used pins was when using longies/shorties (I found that the Snappis snag my wool too much).

also not a pin or snappi fan. thirsties or bsww and prefolds always worked fine for me.

Those of you not using fasteners - are you folding the prefolds into thirds and then laying in the wrap (so I guess there is no fabric in the sides), or are you doing a fold like angel-wing but not fastening?

With DD, I did both angel-wing and trifold, with DS I do jellyroll.

Although DD is super slim, I always found a bikini twist to be the easiest. I would lay a prefold in a cover, place both components under DD, twist the prefold, pull up the cover, and velcro close.

I use pins. I have snappis but I get a better fit with pins. If I happen to choose not to fasten, I lay the diaper in the cover as if I would pin it, angel wings-style. I close it up and then fasten the cover. I never, ever trifold--the diaper gets saggy and droopy. I'm talking about an 18 month old though. When she was non-mobile trifolding worked ok, but isn't so good for containg poo.

Thank you everyone I have not had the baby yet so I suppose at first I will go without pins/snappis and then see how it goes. Once active maybe I will add them.
I really appreciate all of the info and advice, thanks again!
