What happens

I have never came across the answer to this question so I am going to ask on this thread.

If you take a religious exemption on vax and then continue to vax for certain things and it was found out what would happen? Also who would be the one doing the punishing?

I was told to get ds all the vaccines i DO want THEN do the religious exemption (as in, "Hey, I have a new religion") but that works for us since he isn't in school/daycare but if he were i could see it being an issue.

Yes that is what I have always read but havnt been able to find out what happens if you do get "caught" vaxing after filing that exemption?

FTR I have no intention of ever vaxing again but I have seen the statement "once you file you cant vax any more and if you do you will be in big trouble" and I want to know what happens if you do.

It would seem to me that the only "trouble" you would be in is that you can't invoke your exemption again. I mean, there's no "disciplinary action" or anything crazy like that.

But there's probably even a way to get another exemption...something about being scared into it even when it was against your religion, or perhaps you "gave up your religion, then found it again" or maybe you "strayed from your teachings, but have made a personal vow to readhere to them".

I can't imagine they'd be able to do anything. After all, couldn't you just claim that your religion has changed? Or that you no longer believe in those religious views? Or that you've become an atheist?

It's too subjective to hold any hard evidence.

Thank you all for answering. It had been a question on my mind for a while now.

I think most likely they'd not accept your exemption and so to attend daycare/school, your child would be required to get up-to-date.

I had a friend get "caught" by her ds's school. They aren't honoring her exemption now. She could probably fight it, but she hasn't...

Nothing would happen here. In my state you can pick and choose which shots you don't want, or refuse them all of them, using either the philosophical or religious exemptions. The vaccine form even has a spot for you to list the vaccines you don't want your child to have, and then those that he/she has had. Although I personally think that it's probably easier for selective vaxers here to use the philosophical exemption.

I believe in NY you just can't claim a religious exemption again... it would be denied and you'd be required to get your children up-to-date on all the other shots.
