Labelling Stuff

What do you when it comes to labeling things that your kids either share, or that they will use in succession?

Our two oldest children are girls spaced 16 months apart. Clothes are typically worn one year by our first, and the next year by our second (though they might be actually sharing clothes soon). Our oldest starts school in September. Should I label things like her coat and boots with our last name, or is there a labeling solution that's easy to remove?

For coats, backpacks, lunchkits, mitts, hats, footwear I'd use last name only it's easier.

I use last names to label everything. My boys tend to share stuff so first names can be hard when one wears something one day and the next day the other boy will wear it to school.

Just an echo, we do last name only. I have three girls and with my first child I didn't think about it and used her first name on everything and boy, were my other daughters unhappy years later when her jacket said her sister's name inside (though we covered it with an iron-on label). My youngest dd does get her first name occasionally on things as there is no one (identifiable--a cousin might still inherit it) to hand it on to.

I'd do last name. That should be sufficient for the teacher (or whoever else) who finds it to return it to you.

I label with last name and my cell number.

Another "Last Name & Phone Number" response. Not that their current school seems to look at the names

I have 4 kids and they all share outwear, especially the winter gear. Items are labeled with our last name.
