i'm a little late, but just saw this thread.

have you finished? what did you think? i bought this book years ago (and started it, but didn't get very far). i've always wanted to read it, but i guess i am intimidated by it's size).

Yeah, I finished it. I really enjoyed reading it. It made me realize how different things are for us today, but how far we still have to go to get things the ways they should be. Some of the content really hit home with me by describing things that remind me of attitudes or experiences that I've had that I know could come from being "the other" that de Beauvoir describes in this book.

Highly recommended.

I checked out the book at the library (browsed through it). Seems like a pretty hefty book--one that I probably won't be able to take on at the current moment. It's one that I'm really going to have to sit down to read without any distractions. And that probably won't be anytime soon. Just thought I would let you know...

no worries. let me know if/when you might want to tackle it. i'm rather busy myself, so if you ever feel like you'd like to read it, i am definitely willing to take it slowly. i usually have a few books going at once anyway.
