Have you had a tooth pulled?

I am facing my first extraction in the coming week - a molar - possibly 2.
I haven't ever had a tooth pulled before and am wondering what to expect.
Will I be able to drive home afterward?
Is the pain just awful? For how long?
How long are you on liquids only?
How long were you out of it after?
I'm a big dental chicken in case you haven't noticed

I don't remember the pain after being too bad. And thanks to novocaine, it didn't hurt at the time, either. The really awful part - although that's not the right word - the most memorable and icky part, for me, was that although I couldn't feel any pain, I could feel the tooth coming out - the tug, the feeling that a part of my body was being extracted. There was just somethig really unsettling about that.

I needed pain killers the first day. After that I took some advil the next day and that was pretty much it. I was on soft food/liquid diet (no straws, though) for about a week... being extra cautious w/that to avoid dry socket infection (had that after my wisdom tooth extraction - painful!). Mashed potatoes, applesauce, working my way up to scrambled eggs, is what I basically lived on.

Anyway, get the nitrous. I am extremely dental phobic and couldn't do w/o it.

i actually just had a tooth pulled on Tuesday. my far back molar on the bottom left. it was really hard for him to get out as (how embarrassing) but it was super decayed and wanted to shatter when he tried. so for me, the extraction was pretty bad. not painful, but a lot of pressure and pulling. i'm also pregnant, so i'm sure it won't be as bad for you, but i am still in pain. i can't really take anything other than Tylenol. i'm eating normal foods, but very carefully.
