anyone know the name of this type of discipline?

I knew someone once who had some form of discipline. I think it was a form rather than her style. The only thing I specifically remember is that when her DS got mad she would led him rage often hugging him. She would say no hitting if he tried. Anyone have a name I can look up for this form of parenting?

That sounds like a time-in for a child who needs lots of touching. I've seen that recommended a few places when people are talking about how to handle tantrums.

It definitely has a name and i have heard about it but can't remember the name right now. however I am also remembering that it is controversial b/c many children can not handle the hugging while in full on tantrum and it makes things worse.

Holding therapy. It was originally formulated for autistic children.

I don't know that this is a type of parenting style. It sounds more like something you do when you are following your child's cues. This is what I do with my dd unless she doesn't want to be hugged or touched in any way. I also find that rubbing her back helps to diffuse her before a tantrum really escalates.
