Homebirth Fantasies vs Reality - Page 2

oddly enough, it was fairly close.

there were things that i wanted that i didn't get. for example, i wanted to be in a more rural (wooded) location and have a bon fire. but, we just couldn't figure out how to 'swing' that.

but, as far as the pattern, it was pretty close to what i expected. i didn't realize that i would have the 24 hrs that my mother did, but i often figured i would and i did. i expected everything from managable pain to bliss and i got a pleasurable birth!

it did get a birth by candlelight and one with loud vocalization--something i didn't expect. it was sweet.

A lot of my fantasies didn't happen, but I have no real regrets. We had hoped to make a birthday cake during early labor, but DD was posterior, so my contractions were irregular, and so I wasn't absolutely sure it was happening. By the time things were really moving, I was in no shape to bake. My mom made the cake after the birth and after we had gotten some sleep. I had hoped to have my DH catch the baby, but in the end, I needed him behind me, holding me up. My DH did get to order pizza for himself while I was in labor, but it was early enough that he didn't get to scare the delivery boy as he had joked about doing. I had a lot of labor foods and drinks that I never ate or drank. I ended up just drinking water and apple juice... tons of it, but I'm glad I had it available to me. I ended up eating a lot of it postpartum, so it was nice to have easy snacks all ready.

Some of my fantasies came true or turned out better. My mom was able to fly here in time for the birth and spent a lot of labor on the phone with my MIL, filling her in on the details, something that was great but unexpected. My water didn't break until I was in the pool just before the pushing stage. The midwives cleaned up, and I got to go to bed in my own bed with my brand new baby. She had a big head, and her hand was in her eye, so that was some pretty intense pushing. Part of me wonders if I would have had a c-section in the hospital. I'll do it again for sure.

The big plus about Homebirth is that you just had to focuses in the Birth process . You don{t have to go anywhere, carry anything, explain nothing, don't to take any decision (at least you have to be transferred), don't have to be separated any time from the baby (nobody ask for that!), don't have to move after birth, not stress of anything with that.
Best!
