Oh, you poor thing! That sounds difficult and jarring!

If you already have witch hazel, you can freeze that on the pads and it will help, I've read!

Other popular herbs: comfrey (leaf and root), shepherd's purse, uva ursi, garlic, chickweed, calendula... Just make a strong infusion of one or a combo of these and then put some on the pad and freeze. Or you don't have to freeze it. After the first day or two, some people recommend warmth.

(My personal plan is to use comfrey and calendula if I can find them locally, and maybe add in some other stuff if it's easy.)

For the hemorrhoids, I got this balm called Herbal Ed's Salve (from the health food store.) It has in it comfrey, calendula, st. john's wort, chickweed and mullein. I found it really helped me when I was suffering. (But it wasn't pp--just during pregnancy).

Hope this helps and that you find relief soon!

I never had anything on mine.....I just ran pads under water and put them in ziplocs in the freezer and put them in my underwear once they were frozen....It was fabulous.....Putting something or some sort of tea on them first sounds lovely!!!!!!

Sorry you're hurting so much, Mama! I didn't end up freezing any post partum pads, but the other ideas you got already were good. I used Earth Mama Postpartum Bath Herbs and they worked really great in my sitz bath and my postpartum bath I took with my baby. You could use that for your pads, but it has a lot of the herbs other mamas mentioned. In my sitz bath, I also add epsom salts.

For my hemorrhoids, the Rx proctocream I got worked really well (prescription hydrocortisone), better than anything else. I also really like the Earth Mama Bottom Balm and use that often to soothe my sore bottom bits.

Another great idea I heard was to use a condom and fill it 1/4 part alcohol and 3/4 parts water and freeze - you can then wrap it in a paper towel (I used a cloth wipe dipped in witch hazel) inside my undies. I'm not a condom user and didn't want to buy them, so I just used an extra balloon we had here at the house! It was sort of comical trying to fill it with the alcohol and water, but works beautifully.

My midwife has also had me using Tucks pads (witch hazel) for my hemorrhoids - tuck it up in there and leave it. It helps decrease the tissue swelling.

Hope you find something soothing and can enjoy your little babe!

I froze pads with Witch hazel on em but I found them too cold :. It was cool enough just putting the witch hazel on the pad before putting the pad on. It worked great!

Cabbage Cure?

I've heard good things about cold cabbbage placed on top of pads. Cabbage is often used to dry up milk but I've heard it's just as effective at reducing inflamation in the lady parts. I'm planning on packing some for the hospital (I'm sure the nurses have seen stranger things...then again, maybe not!).

I have no experience but a woman in my pregnancy group IRL has had six (soon-to-be-7!) children and swears by soaking a pad in comfrey tea.

Wouldn't the alcohol break down the latex? You're not even supposed to use an oil based lube because they're so sensitive (or so I've been told ). I guess you don't really have to worry about minor chemical breakdowns in the condom, I just worry that it might burst and then I'd have wet pants and alcohol on my sore bits. Did you have any problems?

A donut is a pillow you sit on to help ease the discomfort of hemorroids. I would just add water to pads and freeze them.

Good luck,

i am sitting on my boppy...lol
I have never used my boppy for anything but a cushion for my sore bum after having my girls. I'd tuck bags of frozen peas in the hole in the boppy and that felt good. I hope you feel better!!!!!!!
