I just noticed that my cat has a gash on her paw. I didn't notice it yesterday, but it probably was there as it looks scabbed over. It is on the top of her back paw and starts between her toes and is about and inch in length. She doesn't seem to be in much pain, I can handle the paw but she gets growly if the kids get too close (though in her defense dd1 tends to smother her with attention). She is curling the paw kind of funny, but when I straighten it she doesn't flinch or anything.
I don't think the vet is necessary at this point, but I am worried about it getting infected. I don't have anything like neosporn (we don't use that kind of thing), but I do have some peroxide around here somewhere. Would it be useful to clean it out with that? How about GSE? I was thinking peroxide then coating it with honey, does that work for cats? Other that that, any natural treatments I could do or is it a wait and see thing?
I am keeping an eye on her for signs of fever, but what other things should I be aware of. I really want to avoid the vet if I can handle this at home. My vet fund needs to go toward dog dental surgery first if at all possible as the doggy is in pain.
Thanks in advance!
