Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

I am currently cloth diapering my son using prefolds and covers (a combo of Thirsties and Bumkins). We started him out on the newborn size prefolds, but he outgrew them in like two weeks. He is now in the infant size, but these too seem like they are already getting too small. He's only seven weeks old! Is this normal or am I doing something wrong? Is my kid just really big? The covers seem to still fit fine as far as I can tell.

I usually use a bikini twist fold while my husband prefers the newspaper fold. We are having fit issues with both folds.

My kid is 24 inches and probably weights around 13 pounds.

TIA

we could use our infant prefolds up until dd was about 17 lbs. it was really tight though. are you pinning or using a snappi? towards the end, there was not enough overlap for me to use pins but i could get away with using the snappi a bit longer. you can always trifold the prefolds and put them in the wrap that way too.

We are using snappis. The trifolds work seem to work great for pee but don't contain the poo very well.

That sounds about right to me, but it does depend on the covers. When we used proraps and prefolds, I switched from infant to regular when I moved from small covers (9-14 lbs) to medium covers (13-25 lbs.) The good news is that the next size of prefolds will last for a really long time (I never got anything bigger).

Same thing happened to me

The EXACT same situation happened to me. We had orange edge newborn prefolds from Green Mountain Diapers and only used them for ONE week. Then we went up to the yellow edge infant and our son outgrew those by 2 months of age. So we sized up to the brown edge premium size.

He is now one year old and we are still using the brown edge (10 months later). Looking back we could probably have kept him in the yellow edge quite a bit longer--I was just a newbie to diapering and felt like the diaper was too tight (it wasn't). Also--the bikini twist fold seems to take up a lot of cloth, we've had more luck with the newspaper fold. HTH!

I'm not sure if the newspaper fold is the same as the angel wing fold, but that's what I used, and still use on 19 month old dd, with a snappi. I never liked tri-folding even just for pee. I think we were in the orange edge newborn until about 10 pounds, the yellow edge until about 20 pounds, which was about a year ago maybe, and she's still in the brown edge and will be until potty trained (hopefully soon, yay!!!). She's currently 26 pounds and tall and we have no fit issues at all.
