DIY liner question

I have come across several old fleece baby blankets that I just never use all that much, if I buy some microfiber towels from Wal-Mart (heard somewhere they were like $10 for 25 towels or so) and then cut cut the fleece blankets and sew the fleece on top of the microfiber - could I use these as doublers in my prefolds?

Are you aiming for extra absorbency plus a stay-dry liner? Or just extra absorbency?

If you're doing the extra absorbency plus stay-dry then the fleece/mf combo should work but just make sure the mf doesn't touch the skin - perhaps line the other side with a bit of flannel or something (retired receiving blankets perhaps?), especially if anyone else is doing diaper changes and wouldn't know which side is 'up.'

If you're wanting extra absorbency only, don't use the fleece, and sandwich the mf between something - flannel ought to do it.

I'm answering this from a sewing perspective as I don't use microfibre myself, but lots of people do.

Why shouldn't the microfiber touch the skin?

Why shouldn't the microfiber touch the skin? Just wondering, as I have made liners out of it that are currently sewn into the diaper (inside flannel layers), but should I not use them if they are not sewn in?

The MF pulls all moisture away from the baby's skin, even essential moisture, so it dries the skin out and causes rashes and such. So, you just want to avoid having it touch your LO's skin.

There is Stay Dry Doubler which is exactly what you are trying to sew. It has two fabrics sewn together. Soft fleece on top for dry layer and microfiber insert for absorbency. It is great for night time. 3-pack sells for $10.50... which I think is very reasonable.

I have read in other places that the microfiber is great for clearing up rashes, and at least one source said they just use the small towels plain, tri-folded into a prefold with no problem. Is it really that bad?
