Best OS Pockets or AIO for large babies?

Thread Starter
Hi all,

I am expecting my second and am a convert to CDing. MY first was a big baby - 10 lbs at birth, 20 by 6 months, 30 by 1 year and now 42 by potty trianing at 3. He had a big budda belly and I always had problems fitting him in clothes becuase of it ! Although I know every pregnancy/baby is differnet, I want to plan for a similar size baby (and be pleasantly surprised if he is smaller !)

That being said, I also work about 60 hours a week and need a brainless system. I am planning on using OS pockets and AIOs (specifically BG and GroBaby)....

I have heard some things about BG not fitting larger belly/thigh babies. Anyone with experience on this or who can recocmend a better fitting OS system?

Thanks a ton ! I look forward to hearing and learning from you wonderful ladies !

I've heard that snaps work better for bigger babies, and aplix/velcro for smaller babies. I have a skinny little boy, and I love my BGs for him. I can get a much better fit with the aplix than I can with snaps. You may want to get a couple of different kinds and see what works best for you.

id probably try fuzzi bunz. the daycare i worked at had no problems figuring out how to work those when kids came in with them. im not sure a os dipe would fit a 42 lb kiddo, but i havent had one that heavy in diapers so i dont know for sure. lol. i think the large fb get quite big though! if you're worried about cost, you can always sell to recoup some money.

oh wait, i just realized fb makes a os dipe now. maybe it would get large enough?

I have a pretty big 16 month old with a big old buddha belly and have NOT been overly thrilled with the fit of the BGs. They fit fine now, but won't for much longer. I love my blueberry OS diapers, they seem to still have quite a bit of growing room in them and they fit my 13 pound 2 month old as well. I second the suggestion to try fuzzi bunz, but the SIZED ones, not the one size. My 16 month old is in the mediums with room to grow, and the larges do go quite big. They are nice for the buddha bellies because of how the snaps are. They are sized so you have to buy different sizes but in my opion the fit is totally worth it.

I agree with Fuzzi Buns. I'm not sure how the one size compares to the size large, but I know typically folks just get the small and medium sizes because the large is too big for most kids by the time they potty train. I'd check on DiaperSwappers to see if anyone has done a comparison of the OS and the large - if there is a big difference you could potentially need both sizes. Or you could go sized if you prefer a trimmer fit.

I think while the baby is smaller, you could use pretty much any AIO, but if you have this one has a nice Buddha belly again (), and you want OS diapers, I would suggest the following:

Knickernappies One Size Diapers. These are great b/c they fit down to be relatively small, but are very large when on the large setting

Happy Heinys One Size Diapers - Same as the above, but you can get them in aplix closures.

Unfortunately, I don't think that either the BumGenius One Size Diapers or the Gro Baby do a great job of fitting larger babies. I think they do really well with skinny to average babies, but not larger ones. The Fuzzi Bunz is also a good suggestion. Their size larges are nice and large.

I second the Knickernappies OS suggestion. They seem to be a good OS for big babies. I've heard that they fit much longer than bg's.
(I ordered a few, and will have them relatively soon!)

They are on sale at Snooty Booty Diapers for $17 each. Michelle is super nice and very helpful!

Or you could get the bg's, then plan on getting Large FB's (or another brand that fits big kids) at some point.
