If you saw all the work we were doing just to make it "liveable" you might think twice. I thought you and you DH had a house? The home we were in for knitting was great! Nice area, lots of space, big backyard - wasn't that your family's?

And April at Nurtured is great. In fact, she was a former customer of mine. When her DD was born I got her started with Motherease cloth diapers. I think she's going on a year with her store now, at least. Very nice mama.

No Tamara, it belongs to Jeff's parents. It will never belong to us, cause I'm pretty sure that selling it is part of their retirement plan. Oh yeah, and we pay rent! And I hate the kitchen! I'd love to have this house as my own, but only if I could gut the kitchen and turn it back into one house, not one three apartments. It does have a lovely back yard, for the city. But the raccoons have now destroyed two wading pools! We really need to get a hard plastic one this time I think!

Attention babywearers!

Hi all you babywearers out there,

I am looking for some help with this three week old boy who is currently strapped to my chest...
I have had success with the wrap using the front wrap cross (using a great wrap on loan from Laura - thanks Laura) and am looking for other holds people have liked with small babies. Something easy to transition to nursing would be great.

I also have a ring sling and a mai tai and would be interested in knowing what positions people found worked for them. I am particularly having trouble with the ring sling. I can get him sitting upright facing me, which he seems to like, but eventually he slumps over or his legs look like they might be losing circulation (if they are hanging out the bottom). Also, when I pull the tail to adjust it, somehow the fabric gets twisted onto the rings so it is frustrating to figure out where to pull etc. Any help??
He doesn't seem to like lying down in it, maybe because he is too long, or maybe because I am not doing it right!? Again, something to help with nursing would be helpful.

We are doing pretty well, and Sophie is adjusting to not getting all of the attention...

Cheers,
Cassie

Hi Chuck,
I like your handle. Nice to see you here- I never knew you were a lurker. I used to lurk on the dads' forumn...

I saw her at the Midwifery Coalition's Baby Fair in June. I like the wooden toys and stainless sippy cups.

I've just recently been corresponding with April, who owns the store. She's been absolutely incredible to work with for my silly little Snappi order. Very personalized service.

Casscass,
At that age I used a mayawrap with some success. I have the mayawrap and the DVD - which helped a lot for technique tips - if you would like to borrow them. Jacqueline is too wiggly for ring slings now so there would be no rush to return it. The other carrier I used when Jacqueline was a wee babe was an adjustable hemp fleece "pea in the pod" pouch from www.mom-and-me-creations.com
I couldn't nurse her in the pouch, like some women can, but she certainly liked sleeping in there. Once the weather was cool (less than 5 deg celcius) I loved using my amautik. My ds and I spent hours playing outside while my baby girl slept and nursed peacefully in the big coat. I got mine from www.hipbundles.com It took about 8 weeks to receive it after ordering.
Yes, they are very expensive but I used mine daily (as long as it wasn't raining hard) in the fall/winter/early spring for two years and then had no problem selling it for about 50% of what I paid.

Let me know if you would like us to drop of the mayawrap and DVD. I also have some nursing bras (bravado size small, small plus, and med basic) and a few shirts that I am not using anymore. You are welcome to those too if they would be helpful.
Good luck!

Thanks for the help Mamabike,
I will say a hearty yes thanks to your offers of the Maya wrap, and the bras/shirts!
I remeber your pea in the pod sling and of course the lovely amautik - I may consider getting onelater in the year - I think I'll see how the nursing in various slings goes first. Thanks for the links too.
If it would be easier for Richard to stop by to pick the things up, let us know. But it would be fun to have a visit too.

Thanks again,
Cassie

Hi Cassie! Congratulations!! I hope things are settling in for you are you are enjoying being the mama of two

I just got back last night from vacation. I'd love to pop by this week with a meal for the four of you and give you a hand with your sling. I have some tips that might help. I can also bring a slew of carriers with me so you can try out some others.

We are still unpacking and doing laundry so I'm thinking late in the week would be best for me. Let me know that sounds ok and which day/time would be best for you.

Hi Casscass,
My kiddos are sick with a stomach bug so you definitely don't want to have us over! I'm actually pretty worried about Kieran. He has been sick for a week and has lost quite a bit of weight. He has always been skinny but right now he is scary skinny.

Neil or I will be going to Great Ocean later today. Could we drop off the sling/clothes with you then?

Take care,
LA

Sorry to hear about the kids - always a worry when they lose weight, I know. Wish I had some brilliant advice to offer, but I don't.

Today would be great - if I don't answer the door, just feel free to come in and leave the stuff in the vestibule as I am likely sleeping.

thanks so much. I hope the kids rebound fast.

Hi Krista,
Nice to hear from you! I really appreciate your offer. Later in the week would be great - we are only busy Wed. Looking forward to seeing you,

Does anyone happen to have a copy of Middlesex they'd like to sell? I'm still on the library waiting list and my Sept. book club is drawing closer.

Hi,

I am going to be in Halifax tomorrow and am wondering if there is any shop that sell Hotslings? Buying one for a friend and would like to get ASAP rather then waiting on C.P.
Also any fun baby/children's store we should check out?

Just PM me.

Thanks

Love them! Actually, the owner is on MDC. She's great.

Ack. We really left you high and dry on this one didn't we? I hope that you ended up having a great day. I can't think of anywhere that sells hotslings IRL in Halifax, although there may be somewhere. There's a new kids store called Uncommon Kids (www.uncommonkids.ca) that's supposed to be awesome, although I haven't been there yet. And I always recommend Woozles (www.woozles.com) for people with kids. It's an awesome independent children's book and toy store.

Anyway, I know it's a little late, but maybe for next time!

Actually, the store "Next in Line" www.nextinline.ca sells hotslings, although she's only open limited hours. It's run by a woman named Tori, who is friends with April at Nurtured, actually. They are having a babywearing event on Thursday, if anyone is interested.

Next in line is just up Portland, opposite Tangled Skeins, isn't it?
