What part of the city is HGOT?

Home Grown Organic Things.
I'll be in Halifax next week so I'll have to check out Julians and HGOT.

Home Grown Organic Foods is on Allan Street. It runs parallel to Quinpool. Do you know the area? If not, I can give you more specific directions.

Another place to try in the same area is Great Ocean. It is a large natural food store. It is on Quinpool St.

I have to say, HGOF is great! The quality of their produce is fabulous, AND they do home delivery. They even have a web site. I definitely give them two green thumbs up!

Here's their website. We get the home delivery too, and have been very happy with it.

New to Halifax

My husband, our son, and I will be moving to Halifax in September. I will be 7 months pregnant and am interested in finding a OB/GYN who is good at c-sections. I was wondering whether anyone in your group knows of any.

I was also wondering which area your play group is held. I will be moving near U of King's. I would be interested in coming once we get settled. I have already learned so much from reading the other replys about where to get origanic produce and other tasty things. I am also excited that there are other knitters. I look forward to meeting other moms in the area and discover Halifax for the first time.

Hi Krista! Welcome to Halifax (almost!).

I don't know if she's any good at c-sections, but my ob/gyn is Janet Wenning, and I like her. She works out of the IWK-Grace (the children's/maternity hospital).

The group is held in the south end, where you'll be living. I went to King's...nice area!

cheers!

Oh, can I be jealous that Krista is moving to Halifax? The more I hang out on your NS threads (which I hope no one minds!) the more I want to move back east.

Welcome Krista! You're moving to an awesome part of the city! Are you going to be attending King's? I went there too. I live about a five minute walk from King's, and playgroup is very nearby! You are also only going to be very close to the IWK/Grace where you will be having your baby. I didn't have an ob/gyn for my pregnancy, but my doc also worked out of the the IWK. I believe you will find any ob/gyn who works out of there will be good at c-sections, since they have something like a 27% c-section rate!

LMK when you arrive, and I can show you how to get to the playgroup. And yes, there are other knitters--maybe we need an MDC knitting circle!

My husband will be teaching at King's in Fall. It is good to know that IWK is in the area as we will be without a car. The general DR. that I have found seems to be quite far away from us. Are any DR.s in the area taking new patients that you know of? It is pretty intimidating moving to a new city this far into my pregnancy. Thank you for the OB and hospital advice. Krista.

Krista, where are you moving from?

I came to NS a year ago and still feel like I'm adjusting a bit... I live on the South Shore so I'm a bit out of Halifax but if you're feeling lonely when you get here pm me and I'll come take you for lunch! I'd love to get to know more NS moms having a baby around the same time as me.

Krista, if you click on this link, and then click on "physician listings", it should be able to help you find a doctor close to your home.

Be sure and let us know when you arrive! Halifax is a wonderful place, and we're a pretty friendly bunch. I'm a knitter, too!

I have a great doctor at Dal Health (that I will will when I move down near Elizabeth). It's a clinic for students and staff of Dalhouse and Kings' University, and they *may* also take patients from the area, I'm not certain. If anyone else knows for sure, please correct me. Anyway, it'd be a short walk since it's on campus.

Krista, even if you don't find a doctor nearby, you can get the doctor you did find to refer you to an ob/gyn, or to the perinatal clinic at the IWK. My doctor is out in Fall River (well out of the city, but that's where I grew up, and I like her!), and she referred me to a doc at the perinatal clinic for all my pregnancy visits. If you are living within walking distance to Kings, then you are within walking distance to the IWK. You should pm me when you get into town, cause I live literally a stone's throw from the hospital. We could see our house from the window of our hospital room after The Boy was born!

Dal Health is also something for you to look into, because they are also on campus, and since Kings is affiliated with Dal, you'd have good luck there. I think that they always take new patients associated with the university, although I may be wrong there.

Hello my friends, and welcome Krista!

Krista, you will love Halifax! It is a perfect city for the non-car owner, because almost everything is walking distance. I took the foundation year program at King's and loved it. That's where I met Alison .

Some things FYI:

The Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings is a fun place to go and a wonderful source of organic goods, crafts, music and coffee. A very crunchy and cool place. It is on every Saturday from 7:30am-1pm. Located near the waterfront on Lower water Street in the Brewery Market. Oh, and the french pastries are to die for!

If anyone is starting a knitting circle, I want in. I am a beginning knitter, but I love it!!! Alison?

love Natalie

Natalie, I didn't know you went to King's too! I took FYP in 87/88 (I'm over the hill) and journalism in 91.

Thank you all for the replies. I cannot wait to move. Halifax sounds great. Dalhousie Health is not taking new staff (and family) from King's but the link to the Physician Referral Services provided me with a lot of Dr.s in the area. I will start calling around on monday.

Right now we are in LA (my husband is doing research here), but we are originally from Vancouver. I will be very happy to leave the US and be back in Canada soon.

Thank you for the information and warm welcome!
(A knitting circle sounds great.)

Hi Krista, welcome!
We moved to Halifax from Vancouver a month ago, and we're also car-free. The farmer's market is great, as is the public garden. I'd love to meet for a coffee or a stroll.

We're also looking for a Dr....someone flexible about vaccinating, and ebf? Ideas anyone?
