Halifax Playgroup - Page 5

Yup Jellyfishy, I'm a FYPer too! I loved it. Remember Father Hankey ?? He is the advisor for an aquaintance of mine.

Yay! A knitting circle!

My husband will be teaching in the FYP. It sounds like a great reading list. I hope I can find the time to read some of it this year.

We stopped insuring our car in Vancouver when we lived there because we could ride our bikes all over. My son and I both loved bike rides or walks together to pick up groceries or to visit people. Being in LA we are so dependent on our car. It makes life feel a lot more stressful.

We had a great Dr. in Vancouver. She was very flexible about immunizations and always suggested wholistic alternatives before medical prescriptions. I guess it is hard to find Dr.s like that. It will be a big change.

Natalie, I remember well the day Hankey strode up and down the lecture hall, academic robes flowing behind him, and with great derision declared us all to be "passive learning sponges".

I often wish I could do FYP over again. It was such a great reading list, and it was entirely wasted on a wasted 18 year old!

Krista, in my experience it's been challenging to find a doctor whose AP friendly in Halifax. I know they're out there, but getting to be one of their patients is another thing!

yay for knitting circles!

My feelings exactly. I wasn't even wasted as an 18 year old (that came later--i think you might have been around??? ), but FYP was still wasted on me! I was too young. Now, being older, and willing to argue my point of view on something, it would be so much more fun!

Natalie, are you coming to playgroup on Natal Day? We're still having it that day, and most people are bringing their partners, and we're having cake because it's Callum's birthday. I'm going to see if I can get Jeff's brother and his wife to come, so you should bring Nick!

BTW, your house is really nice, and your backyard is awesome--don't ever cut down either of those big trees!

I think Rob is coming too. We might have to move to the gym I'm going
to the valley today Alison to "feel yarn" at the shop I sent you the link
to. I hope Reece is up for it! I'm bringing Gramma along just in case LOL!

Oh, let me know how the yarn feels! I want to get something nice and soft to make longies for Andrew!

I've actually found it pretty easy to navigate Halifax without a car. Although there aren't many bike lanes, drivers seem to be courteous and give me lots of room - especially when I'm towing the trailer. The transit system is alright...where you live Krista, you will be able to walk to everything you need.

I'm so envious of all of you knitters. I've tried to learn to knit (from a book) twice - and both times I got stuck : and frusterated after the most basic stitches.

Neil and I are going to try to make it to playgroup (finally!) on Monday too.

OOOHHHH Alison you MUST go! I was there over an 1 1/2 hours! I touched everything LOL! The wool shop is in a huge renovated barn, open ceilings with exposed beams etc. They have so many different yarns. They also have the beautiful yarns from Minesville too. They have this 100% organic cotton that was to die for! It was amazingly soft. I wish now that I had bought some. Most prices were cheaper than our local shop. I bought a set of Addi Turbos for $17.00. They were spinning while I was there! It was great. And of course the lanolin smell was everywhere.

OK, the non-knitters are going to think I'm crazy LOL! It was worth the drive though

Oh, where is this shop? I must go! Knitting road trip!

Leigh Ann, it would be awesome to see you at the group on Monday! It's going to be a big group, with dads and all coming! And cake! Anyone else out there who hasn't come before or can't normally make it, please do drop by!

I wish we could come to playgroup. I may give it a shot, but it's so hectic now. Andrew is in Winnipeg all next week, so he wouldn't be able to come
Ainsley and I might try it, though, if naps, thesis and house viewings are under control! (I can always be lured out by the promise of cake!)

Thanks for sending the link to the yarn shop Alison. I've been out of the house for a few days while we had new floor put down in the kitchen. My house is a disaster. Kitchen stuff in the dining and living room, bathroom reno stuff everywhere else! I'm going a little nutty, but Reece is making tunnels and forts everywhere LOL!

Hope everyone remembers that we're having playgroup tomorrow! And that it's Callum's birthday and Christian is bringing cake! And, the Parade of Sail is just after playgroup, so you can walk downtown from playgroup (in like five minutes!) and go see the tall ships!

Anyone new need directions or anything, just e-mail me!

Playgroup was fun! Mamabike and Kieran and his dad made it, and Mrpeabody'smom was there, with Mr. Peabody wearing one of the now-famous soakers! I think we had three MDC mamas in the group. Zipworth, where were you? We were expecting you all since it was a long weekend! You'd better have a good excuse!

We couldn't come, yesterday was our Lammas ritual. At the end of the ritual we got to see the tall ships sail out to sea, though!

Playgroup was great fun! Thanks to those who organized it. Everyone was so welcoming . Kieran was so tired he nursed to sleep on the bus ride home, and then stayed asleep while I walked into the house... I was also coveting that gorgeous little soaker. Was it purchased, or made at home?

Krista (Mrpeabody'smom) knits those and sells them on e-bay! There was a little bit of a hyena flurry about one of her soakers in the diapering forum last week. Weren't they just the cutest little shorts?
