I don't know if its a growth spurt or if she's using me as a pacifier, but dd today has been nursing NON STOP all day. I am lucky I got a break to pee and shower. It's really wearing on me. I cannot sit here nursing her all day, I have 3 other kids and a household to run.
She will cry and sometimes wail, root around looking for something to suck on. I will latch her on, she sucks for a little bit and as soon as I start letting down, she falls asleep. So I don't know if its because she's not getting any at that point? I try to wake her up but she just sleeps through.
At other times she will nurse for 10-20 mins on one side but its not constant sucking, its more like sucking in her sleep.

Right now dh has her and she's wailing. I just fed her about 35 mins ago. I put her down long enough to unload and load the dishwasher.

It's important to me to nurse, but seriously, this is getting to me. I am swollen terribly in my legs and feet and then now I have to sit and latch her on all the time and its becoming painful.
My breasts aren't feeling full anymore and sometimes I dont get the letdown feeling or even hear her swallowing very much.

I don't know if I should just cave and buy some formula tomorrow and call it quits???

I did weigh her today again to keep monitoring her weight gain since we go for a check on Weds or Thurs. This past Thurs she was 7 lbs 12 oz and tonight she was 8 lbs 2.5 oz naked. So she's gaining slowly, but at the same time, totally wearing me out. I know that at the next Dr appt she won't be back to her 8 lb 10 oz birth weight.

I don't know what to do anymore.

ETA: When I was nursing my son, my supply was so good that when I'd let down and he'd back away, it would spray out like a firehose. I am not getting that this time. My boobs are mushy. You would think that with her nursing so much that they'd be fuller.
I also took some Fenugreek today and I think it upset her belly

Congrats on new baby! Hang in there. I think she is trying to get your supply up. My DD went through several periods when she was nursing 30 min on each side on both boobs at each feeding, including when she was newborn. She was pretty much eating for an hour, off for an hour, the whole day. After like a week or so, she would go back to her usual, which is 5-15 min on one boob per feeding. I would say just bear with it for several more days and see if your supply goes up and she lets up. I wouldn't worry about supplements yet. Try not to worry and just go with the flow. Worrying will affect your supply. Good luck!

My son did the EXACT same thing. I even posted on here because I thought there was something wrong with my milk that he wasn't filling up... I know it's hard (and frustrating)! There were days I would barely eat because I couldn't put the baby down long enough. It does get better! Just promise yourself to hang in there another several days or a week and see if it doesn't get better!

Congrats on your new baby! I just had a baby too, at the end of July. We went through something similar a few days ago, my new babe wanted to nurse non-stop all day and night. And, I also remember going through the same thing when my son was about 10-12 days old. Our pediatrician told us that babes have a big growth spurt when they’re about 2 weeks old, and that the constant nursing usually correlates with that timeframe. For us, it passed after a day or two…

I hope you get a break soon!
