Yarn storage question

I am going to be inbetween houses for a few months. I am renting a storage unit to put my things in. I can't afford a climate controlled unit, but they are only heated in the winter, not air conditioned.

I have a lot of yarn, it is all synthetic as I am allergic to wool. I have them right now in plastic bins, sort of like shelves. What is the best way for me to store them in this unit? I am thinking 6 months, max, until I can get my own apartment. There is no room at my parent's house for me to keep it there. When I say I have a lot of yarn, I am talking like, 300 skeins or so. (most of it donated to me for my mission project work that I do with it).

I am just scared of it getting mildewed in storage. It is really hot and humid where I live.

Any suggestions?

would a sock full of rice absorb moisture from the bin it's in?

Vacuum bag.

Silica packets would help, but I think the rice sock is a cheaper alternative. Even though its synthetic I would also add some cedar balls to the bins to keep bugs out. You don't want insects taking up residence in the nice cozy bins.
