Mastitis/Plugged Duct and my husband

Thread Starter
My problem right now is that I have a very painful plugged duct that may be leading to mastitis (I have aches and occassional chills) and such and my husband is verbally supportive but keeps asking me to do stuff around the house anyway (like paint the windows.) I feel guilty around him because we are doing so much house renovation and he's working his butt off, and I'm just sitting around the house. I got this way from working like a maniac and wearing myself out, but he thinks that a simple task such as sitting to paint a windowsill is not taxing. AHHH! How can I get him to understand?!? Help.

I had a similar situation last winter....got mastitis. Came home early from work to REST, and hubby took off to get the tires changed on the car, which didn't HAVE to be done that day! Left me home alone with babe to rest!
I would just try to explain to your hubby that you really need a day or two to take it easy, and if you don't you're going to end up needing a week Try taking a long warm bath, this helps with the plugged duct and you're unavailable in the tub

Usually I would not suggest this, but I say, fudge a bit. Fake like you are REALLY sick, stay in bed with the baby, look at him confused or pretend to be asleep when he bugs you.

Oh boy! If you fully develop mastitis, you’ll be entirely out of commission and he’ll have to handle everything, including babe care (except for feeding, of course) until you’re well. So, with that in mind, perhaps he’ll be a little more supportive of you taking it easy for a few days?

It’s so important to take care of yourself, especially as a new mother!

Ditto. Clearly, your husband does not understand what mastitis is. Explain to him or send him to kellymom.com or SOMETHING. Sounds like he just does not get it - thinks it's just a plain old sore boob or something.

I'm very layed back and always let nature take its course (the body is self healing...yata yata) BUT Matitis is very very serious, I have a malfunctioning duct and within 3 children have had it 7 (thats seven) times - you feel like you got hit by a train, once I was so delirious with fever my mom called 911, once I had to be surgically drained - not fun. Milk fever is what women died of for thousands of years.

take care of yourself!
