weird looking nipple...

Okay, so ds is 4 weeks old. I bf dd for years and never had this issue...it's kinda freaking me out. One of my nipples has a really big lump right next to it.

It basically looks like my nipple is swollen on one side, making the nipple twice as wide/big as it should be.

It's kind of hard to describe...maybe i should draw a picture and post it? Lol...

It doesn't *really* hurt. It's a little sensitive, but i wouldn't say painful.

Any idea of what this could possibly be?

TIA!

Last baby I BF'ed, I had some kind of a whacked out milk duct on the underside of my nipple that would stick out and be quite hard. It wasn't really painful, just kind of 'there'. My milk is just coming in for my new baby, so I don't know if it will present in the same way this time or not but the last time it did and it was harmless.

I've also had various harmless breast cysts that can look/feel a little odd, and it's always turned out to be nothing serious.

In the event that you determine you've got some kind of cyst as opposed to some kind of infection, evening primrose oil can help, as can eliminating caffeine..

Good luck.

I have no idea what it might be but my rule is if it is unusual and it's big, I call my doc about it immediately to see if they think I should come in.

Maybe the more experienced breastfeeders here know something I don't, but without any other info I'd probably call the doc.
