Which site do you use for a free 3-bureau credit report?

I did a google search and there are more than 10 pages that apply to my question. : I thought there was one nowadays?????

Macy's has no record of our account and I have the card in my hand. They apparently did a recent purge of inactive accounts, but cannot tell me if that is indeed what happened to our account.

I don't actually care if they closed the account because we WANT it closed, but for them not to know anything and have the call going somewhere overseas and have a REALLY bad connection was highly annoying... I talked to three humans and the phone system and checked the online system. No info.

Anyway, we have way too many open accounts right now and I need to see them all in order to decide which to (selectively) close. We have excellent credit and closing some unused accounts is not going to change that.

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp is the gov't authorized free one.

You do DO NOT need to use a site that requires you sign up for some protection/advantage program. If you are looking for your credit score however (I know you didn't say you were, just throwing it out there) that is not free and you will have to pay a nominal fee.

I personally don't pull all 3 at once. You are entitled to one/year from each bureau. So I rotate and pull them over the course of the year. Except I never remember which one I did last.

Thank you!!! This is exactly what I needed and I appreciate you putting the link and the info all in one simple place. (I had done a number of searches in this forum before posting my Q.)

DH isn't home, yet, and Macy's is not showing up on my credit report at all. Weird.

Anyway, I did find out that TransUnion STILL (YEARS LATER) has me living across the country from where I indeed live AND I have NEVER lived in the state they show me living in. Ugh. I have filed now THREE investigations regarding this. The first two involved a lot of incorrect accounts and information that HAVE been cleared up, but the address thing just bugs me to no end.

Equifax has my name wrong. An extra letter at the end of my first name. Nothing else in the entire history (long!) is inaccurate. It won't let me make just that one change online. Grrrr...

Experian THANKFULLY has zero errors!

DH is going through all three of his reports now. No weird inaccuracies like mine, but his are all the accounts we need to close. Technically, they are all joint accounts, but they are not showing on my report.

Well I did mine (thanks to this thread) and have a Macy's account, now closed that I must've opened in college or something... Do you want it?

Glad it helped and hope you get it sorted out. We had a lot of sorting/closing/correcting to do years ago, and it's nice to see a clean report now.

@ Macy's

I had told DH that I spent an inordinate amount of time on the phone trying to get the Macy's account closed and it just wasn't working. I knew the credit bureaus could get what I wanted done and that was why I was doing it this way.

So, we go through the credit reports and he did what needed to be done for some of the accounts, even as he questioned me every step of the way. So, after dinner, he called the three remaining companies himself and got the same runaround I did...no record of the account (card in hand), overseas connections that were less than clear, multiple phone entries and people to speak with, etc. He finally decided to go back into the credit report and finish those three accounts that way.

FWIW, our credit is excellent and nothing in there is a real problem. I am just tired of having to keep track of so many accounts. If we haven't used the account in 4-12(!) years, why keep it open??? If we really need it down the line, these limbo accounts are not going to help us anyway and we'd have to open a new account then, too.

BTW, I already received notification from the first bureau saying they corrected the address issue. Fast!

I have to send in a copy of my driver's license for the second bureau and I'll do that next week when I do finances and paperwork again.

I anticipate DH's accounts will all be taken care of smoothly since none of the companies have any record of them anyway...
