Is this happening in your area? Nurses calling

So my son is 9 weeks old and about every 2 or 3 weeks I have a nurse calling me from our hospital where my son was born at, asking if I am still nursing and offering help or numbers to a LC if I need it.

Of course, I always mean to ask her what is prompting the calls, like is it a new program etc, but it seems like she always calls when I am feeding or changing the baby.

Anyway, I know my area has a very high rate of FF and that probably has something to do with it, but I was just curious if other areas are doing it. She always seems so surprised when she hears I am still nursing. Last week she asked "how old is your baby" when I said two months, she said "and you are still nursing, that is wonderful". I just thought, WOW, 2 months is when it is super easy by this point.

I will try to make time to talk to her more the next time she calls and find out what the point in all of it is, but wondered in the mean time if it is happening everywhere else. I am glad that people are making the effort to try to help women out there, I just always find it funny when they want to help me, like the LC in the hosptial with my last delivery who came in and really wanted to discuss BF with me and really wanted me to consider it as an option, all while I was nursing and she didn't notice. Then she found out it was a surrogacy pregnancy and I was pumping and shipping, and this was my 5th baby I had nursed, she just looked at me like I had 2 heads. Guess they are just really not used to it around here.

Yes, this happened to me, too. It's a new policy at the hospital.

The hospital where I had my twins did that. They were collecting information about rates of continued breastfeeding-- what percentage is still nursing at one month, two months, four months, etc. It was all part of an effort to increase breastfeeding rates and so they always mentioned how to get support to continue nursing. It seemed to me like a good program, even though the calls could be annoying sometimes.

oh cool. I will ask her if it is the same thing going on here. I don't mind them calling at all, she just really seems to find the worst possible time to call. Maybe I should take her number and call her monthly Although when I am closing in on 18 months or so, she might tell me to stop calling. HA.

Yes this happened after DD1 was born and I think it was because I was a new mom. I really appreciated it and it really helped me build my confidence in breast feeding (I was and still am the ONLY one in the family to breast feed) I think it is a great idea personally.

My hospital called a couple weeks after my daughter was born to ask me if I had any "blues" and how breastfeeding was going, and if I had any concerns. They didn't call back after that- maybe they would have if I did have any issues, but everything was A OK. It's nice that they are doing this.
