falafel?

when frying falafel, do i really need to use so much oil that they "float" ?? that is what the directions say and i have never actually cooked them myself. man, thats a lot of oil!

I also "oven fry" them. Essentially bake them on a oiled cookie sheet.

here's a recipe for baked falafel.

I hate deep frying (I mean I *love* deep fried things! but it is too much effort, too hot, too messy, and too much oil for me!)

oh thats awesome! i actually have some mix that i bought that is dry and i added water to it about 20 mins ago. dd's chicken tenders will be out soon so the oven is already on 375.

I make them from scratch so I control the consistency when mashing the beans. I fry them because they taste better that way but they do not float!!!! I use less then 1/4 inch of oil. I add a little more if need be.

I fry them, and they float. Everything that I deep fry floats. Otherwise, I consider it pan frying.
