Advice wanted: rent vs buy - Page 2

I would rent. Will you be caring for the baby while your husband works? Or will there be a nanny?

I don't think I'd move into a larger place until it was necessary. Newborns don't take up very much space. It's nice to have 1 "safe" place to put them down, and we had a co-sleeper which worked great for that. Beyond that we didn't use any baby gear.

You'd probably save alot of money by not moving until the baby was 6 to 9 months. That's when we found we started to use more room. Until then DD had been happy on a blanket in the living room and in our bedroom.

The plan is to have DP go to working part time, and to share a nanny with another family when he is working. I will go back to work when the baby is about 10 weeks. One problem with our current setup is that literally the only door in the current place is to the bathroom, and DP regularly has to make work phone calls that he doesn't want inturrupted. Another is that it doesn't give us any extra bed to have grandma stay overnight, which may need to happen (though only occasionally) if DP is away while I am working my crazy hours.

Do you ultimately want to be debt free, or is debt an acceptable risk?

Definitely rent. No question.
