A couple of CD questions....

This will be my first time CD'ing and I'm also a first time mom to be. I have kept up with this forum pretty regularly as well as a lot of other knowledgeable websites. I have my stash, that I feel is pretty well rounded, but I still have just a few questions.

1) I have a couple of inserts and-or doublers that are fleece or microfiber. Now I know these are great at keeping the baby from feeling wet, but i am not sure about which side to put against the baby. Do I just test each side myself for wicking or is there an easy way to tell visually?

2) I've read that some of you rinse your diapers before putting them in a dry pail. With a wet diaper going in a pretty sealed pail, does this ever cause them to get mildewy or a little stale or do you then only use a pail without a lid?

3) I actually got two pails. A big can for my pee diapers and a little can for my poop diapers. They both have lids and the pee one gets a little more ventilation. Do any of you use separate pails and if so, have you noticed a difference at all? I do still intend on washing them together, though.

4) How many of you wash all of your diapers together or separate your stash depending on materials?

I think that is all... thanks in advance from any of you helpful mamas!!!

Congrats on your upcoming birth! It sure sounds like you are prepared!

You only want to have the fleece against the baby. The microfiber only inserts should go inside pocket diapers. If you have a microfiber/fleece doubler, you want the fleece against the baby.

You can rinse them a little or not. For example, if you have a diaper sprayer, they will get rinsed. The key to keeping them from getting really icky is to wash regularly. Washing every 2 days is a great timeframe to aim for.

I always use the same pail, but that sounds like a cool idea

I always wash all my diapers and covers together. The only time you really need to wash separately is when you first buy hemp. You just want to wash the hemp seperately once and then you can wash it with everything else.

Hope you have a great rest of your pregnancy and a wonderful birth

I agree with the answers given. For number of pails I used 2 put one was for the diapers the other was for the covers. I'd put all DD covers in a large mesh bag like ones used for sweaters or lots of delicates that way I could both just find all my covers quicky to air dry is I wanted or even if they went through the dryer it would keep the velcro from sticking against all the cotton diapers laundry tabs never stayed put here. I found the covers stayed water proof longer and kept from assorbing smells if I kept them seperate. (but I did was all together).

I washed everything together mostly. I used two pails -- only becuase I had two in diapers. But I did often seperate them into pee pails and the other poo pail and would do each pail seperately. Keeping in mind that at the two day mark I had enough diapers for two loads.

I would wash every two days and just mix them all together in the washer to make the load.

1) You never put microfiber against a babies skin. You use those in a pocket diaper. Or if your using a gDiaper you would need to make a fleece or flannel cover to go over it.

2) I don't rinse my diapers. I throw them right into the diaper pail. I know some use a diaper sprayer. I believe when they do that they throw everything together in one pail. If you wash every two days there should be no problem.

3) I use a step trash can as my diaper pail. Then I have my pail liner in it. It works great. I also put a cloth with tea tree oil in the bottom of the diaper pail. It helps with the smell.

4) I wash all of mine together.
