Hello all,
Jack Robert was born on 8/11/09 at 10:44 pm. He is 7 lbs 10 oz and 20.5 inches long. Here is his birth story.
I went for a NST on 8/11/09, at 12:30 pm. I was on the monitor for almost an hour, then the tech took me off and asked me to wait outside for my Amniotic Fluid index to be done. (My last son's placenta did not function correctly so I have had NST's and AFI's since 35 weeks this time). After the AFI was done, the u/s tech told me to wait, they were calling my Dr. Then the Peri told me that she saw 2 decelerations in the baby's HR that were too low for her and that I was going to stay and have the baby that night. I was really not ready to stay, I had not slept in 2 night and I was tired! Also, labor and delivery were packed so until there was a bed/suite ready, I had to wait in the Antenatal Testing Unit.
I went and called my husband (he was at home with the 3 boys and told him we were having the baby that night. He was kinda in shock and started getting the boys stuff together so they could go to my parent's house. I called my mom and told her that the time had come and the baby was coming that night. She had to finish work and she was going to meet my husband at home at about 5:15.
I waited an hour (at this point it was 3:30 pm) and then at around 4:00 I went to L&D. My Dr came in at 4:30, saw me and told me I was having my baby that night. He checked me, I was 4 cm dilated and 80% effaced. I was having regular contractions but they were not bad at all, just uncomfortable at times because I had the belt to hold the monitors on and it would get tight!
The Dr wanted to break my water and start Pit but my DH was not there yet and my Dr felt it was going to go fast so he told the nurses to wait until my DH came to start the Pit. I asked him if I could try and labor on my own but he wanted the baby to come sooner rather than later. I could still move around at this point and I was almost 6 cm dliated.
My Dr broke my water at about 5:45, it was clear and the contractions got really strong at that point. My husband came around 6:15. A nurse came in and told me that the Dr still wanted to use Pit but she had to go to give report so a new nurse would get it started. I was checked a but after 7 and I was 7 cm.
My contractions started to space out, so my Dr started the Pit and then I was 8 cm. I stayed 8 for a while. I was so uncomfortable. Everyone (nurses, Drs, my DH) kept asking me if I wanted soemthing for the pain. I just kept breathing through each contraction and panting when I needed to. The pain was getting really bad, my water kept trickling out and I had really bad back labor. I wished I could move around more but I was not allowed out of bed at this point.
At about 10 pm, I kept feeling like something was stabbing me in both sides of my abdomen. I wanted to push but I was not complete. At 10:40, I told the Dr I needed to push, he checked me and the baby's head was crowning. I pushed 2 times and out Jack came. He was perfect -10 fingers, 10 toes, and some red hair to boot!
Even though I really did not want to be induced, I am so glad Jack is earthside and safe! He is such a sweet baby. He is nursing well and my older sons are enjoying him!
Here are some pictures. Take care!http://mothering.com/discussions/album.php?albumid=149
Good luck to all the mamas who still have to have their babies!! Speedy labors to you all
