Weaning a 2 year old Help!!!

Hello,

I am new to this forum and I need some encouragement and some helpful ideas on how to wean my 2 year old. We are down to three nursings a day, but I really just don't know how to proceed these are her 3 favorites (Am, afternoon and bedtime). So if anyone has any advice on how to kindly and gradually end these I would really appreciate it.

Please no criticism, just helpful tips and encouragement

Thanks!

I'll preface this by saying I haven't weaned a toddler before so this is just an idea rather than the voice of experience.

The afternoon nursing would probably be the easiest to drop. Keep her as busy as possible. Go to the park, go to the store, the library, whatever you can do to keep her busy. After a week or two, start working on dropping the morning nursing, then the night.

Two years is great!! :

Wow! How cool that your baby nursed so well for 2 years. Is your toddler a boy? I've heard boys like to hang on to nursing longer than girls???

Hi KnitLady, Thank you for your advice I will definitely try keeping her busy, and I agree the easiest would be the afternoon! Yes I am happy we made it to 2!

Thanks again!

Hi twins+1, my toddler is a girl and she is so attached! I think she would nurse until she was 12 if she could but I wanted to make sure we at least made it until 2 and we did so now it is time. I feel good about making it to 2.

Distraction, I agree with pp that afternoon would be easiest. The lasts to go are usually naps and bedtimes. Your just going to bite the bullet with those as those can be very difficult to drop. Perhaps have dad, a partner or a freind help with bedtimes/naps, but essentially you'll just have to find a new rythem for putting your little one to sleep. It will be hard, but you can do it gently. Weaning is never ever easy, but you did good for making it to 2 !!

Thanks everyone! We had almost dropped the afternoon nap nursing entirely and then we all got sick, welcome back afternoon nursing at least for a little while. Oh well thank you all for your encouragement!!!
