EBM in a cup versus a bottle for 6 month old

I am going back to work half time (4 1/2 hours) soon and my 6 month old will need to drink some breastmilk while I am there. We have tried bottles and sippy cups but have not had much luck yet. My husband did try giving her some bm from a small shot glass and she drank an ounce with some help from him. Is this OK? Is there any reason not too use a cup? Is it bad that she is getting the milk faster? Would this affect breastfeeding at all?

Neither of my babies ever had bottles or sippy cups. I think both have their place but they aren't necessary. And some babies just won't use them - neither of mine would. My oldest continued to nurse well past when I first introduced a glass. He was also able to use a glass independently far earlier than any other children I know - he could do it without spilling a drop by 18 months. My youngest is only 14 months and still spills a lot but he's getting there. It hasn't affected our nursing relationship at all. If using a shot glass works well for you do it.

My baby refuses bottles and pacifiers so this may be the route we have to go too. Here is some info I came across. There is also a link to a video of a baby cup feeding (you could use one of those small medicine cups too) on the same site:

No reason at all. In fact, cup feeding is often suggested as a preferable alternative to bottle feeding a breastfed baby as there is no danger of developing nipple preference (affecting sucking patterns), and a small cup such as a shot glass often works very well as you have found.

Good luck with your return to work!

What the PP said. Shouldn't be any trouble with the shot glass. Just remind your husband that if baby takes a little long to finish the milk he may need to reheat it or baby may not want to drink the cold/room temperature bm.
