We arrived at the hospital about 8:30 am, and got registered without a hitch. We were scheduled for surgery at 10:30am, but were bumped back to 11:00am due to an emergency. We left for surgery about 11:05, and Rohnin was born at 11:26am to the music of ACDC. Mike was allowed to view and take photos during surgery this time. Rohnin was taken immediately to the NICU because he had aspirated amniotic fluid into his lungs and would not cry or cough it out completely. As a result he had an elevated respiratory rate, and had to be put on forced oxygen until he could slow his breathing. I was not informed of anything regarding his condition. All they kept telling me was someone from the nursery will be in to talk to me. I was in recovery for 1 hour after the section and I had yet to see anyone, other than Mike running down to let me know how much me weighed, and let me see a pic of him, as I wasn't even told that before this time. This really started to piss me off. Mike was with me for about 5 minutes until I sent him back to Rohnin's side to be sure no one was giving him any injections, eyedrops, or Vit K. He was taken off of oxygen about 2 hours after birth, however the NICU nurse was a real PITA and still wouldn't let me have him in my room to begin nursing him. After another hour and a half, Mike went back to the NICU and told them that if I didn't get my son soon, I was going to be extremely pissed off, as I was already getting very agitated knowing that he best thing for him at that point would be to nurse and then do kangaroo care. I was ready to sign a waiver and go against medical advice and demand my son be brought to me NOW if they didn't cooperate. At that point they brought him to my room almost immediately, and we began to repair the damage done by being separated for so long after birth. He had problems latching at first, and it didn't help that a nurse kept trying to force her hands into the situation either...for god's sake, I do know a thing or two about nursing a baby by now. Mike could tell I was really getting pissed off at the nurse by my face and just decided to step back for fear I might explode at her for putting her hands on my breasts without asking and trying to tell me how to hold him. When she finally left the room I was able to get down to business and get him latched on without a problem. After getting his fill we did Kangaroo care to help him keep his breathing in rhythm. After about an hour of Kangaroo, another NICU nurse came in and said she had to take him back to the nursery to be evaluated by the Neonatologist. Mike stayed with him the entire time I was unable to be with him, so he went with him again. By this time I was able to have the cath removed, and got out of bed, so I also walked down to the nursery. I refused to leave the nursery until Rohnin was able to come with me to my room. He was finally given the release at 6pm, and we both went back to my room. We left the hospital on Friday the 14, and finally were able to get comfortable at home. My milk came in on Friday night, and for once I don't have a problem with supply!:

All in all, it was pretty crappy dealing with the nursery nurses, but my nurses were great. (one even snuck a Coke in for me for my lunch and dinner!) Upon admission they followed by requests to a tee, and were happy to do so. They even let me wait to get my cath until after the spinal was done. Every time before they insisted that it HAD to be done before. I really couldn't have asked for better nurses for myself, (if only they could have been that good in the nursery.) The L&D nurse manager even came in to introduce herself and to assure me that everyone was brought up to speed on my birthplan I had emailed her earlier this year, and that I had already received the okay for my requests.

The aftermath is a different story...
Rohnin continued to do well even after we got home - he has a great latch and is a champion nurser, and is gaining weight very well. He doesn't really cry at all, and is generally happy just to be held.

My recovery on the other hand has been hell. Beginning Saturday afternoon, I started getting REALLY stiff and sore. I couldn't even stand up by myself. I had a burning pain through my whole abdomen and if I even brushed the skin I would break down in tears. It continued to get worse through Sunday, and Sunday night I completely broke down in tears due to the pain and I also noticed my incision was leaking blood and yellow discharge. It was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life. breathing, moving, sitting, standing, even holding the baby were excruciatingly painful for me. I knew something was really wrong because I never had that kind of pain with either of the girls' sections. I called my OB Monday morning and was promptly seen that day. I was right, something was really wrong. Turns out I had a MAJOR abdominal infection with a huge pocket filled with blood and bodily fluids. I was put on a course of antibiotics, doubled my pain meds, and had a blood test to make sure it hadn't spread to my bloodstream. I went to my OB again today, and things are looking much better. They took out the staples, and checked the incision and internal pocket. Most of the fluid is now gone, and my bloodwork came back fine. I still have drainage but not nearly as bad, and was told to expect it to continue to drain for a few weeks. I'm already feeling better as of right now. Through it all Mike has been wonderful...he has been waiting on me hand and foot, and taking care of the girls. I really couldn't ask for a better husband to help me with everything that he has up to this point. Hopefully my recovery will continue to be good from here on out, and I can start to enjoy my girls again too.

Thanks for all your support ladies!

still hoping for the pain to start to subside, but as of yet I'm still pretty uncomfortable, and have blood leakage (yuck!) Have to go in for another checkup on the first to make sure everything is still on the up and up.
