Nora Cecelia Has Arrived!

Sorry for not posting in over a week. To make a long story short, my water broke last Wednesday, contractions fizzled out twice, and we wound up transporting to the hospital early on Saturday morning for induction. Nora arrived at 2:31 pm CST, 19.5" long, 7 lbs 11 oz. Apgars at 9/9, mommy left with second degree tears. :P I am typing up the whole story as I get time and will post it when I'm done. It's very long!

Midwife thinks she kicked out the water bag and my body was just not ready for labor. We still tried for our home birth, but wasn't meant to be. I still had a positive experience at the hospital (the hospital I went to is very friendly to home birth transports, thank God!) and I wasn't at all treated like a pariah.

Due to a surgery I had years ago, I'm not producing enough milk for Nora. I'm using a hospital grade pump to kick my milk supply up (and it's working!) plus taking Blessed Thistle and Fenugreek. She was getting dehydrated but we caught it in time, thanks to mom's instinct something was wrong. We're supplementing with formula and finger-feeding to avoid nipple confusion until she's old enough for a bottle in a month or so. She went from eating 3/4 oz to almost 2 oz in 24 hours, so is doing much better now.

We are so much in love with her and very happy. Also very tired!

Congratulations, Hezzie! I'm so glad to hear that even though your birth experience wasn't exactly what you'd hoped, it was still a good experience... and that you trusted your intuition and are persevering with breast feeding! Enjoy your babymoon!

Congratulations!!! Happy Babymoon!

Was it Seton or St David's? I heard one of the two has a whole new birthing area, but can't remember which. That's great the experience was a good one.

St. David's Medical Center at 34th (?) St. There's also St. David's North, South, and Round Rock. The North hospital has the new birthing area, but we went to the Medical Center because it's closer and my MW has had nothing but good experiences there with her transports. She totally worked in tandem with the L&D nurses and coached me through labor. It was very cool.
