Have you ever known anyone personally to purposefully take his/her child in for a vaccine or set of vaccines that the child has already had...because the shot records were lost and the school informed the parent that the vaccines must be taken again?

I've heard from two parents who said their health clinics lost their child's shot records, and the school said the children needed to be re-vaccinated in order to attend. This was in a state with philosophical exemptions. :

Anyway, both of these parents took their kids back in for the shots.

Yup...my Nephew .

I guess this is one good thing that can come out of state registries.

I don't know anyone personally but we have a huge migrant population here and I have heard that many of them, because they often don't speak English and don't carry medical records, will have their children vaccinated again and again when they move on to new towns.

Within just the past few days I read an article on over immunization- I will try and locate it. The number was pretty high.

I have never heard of it happening, though it almost happened to me with MMR before college. They tested my titres instead.

Yeah, that. My mom was a school nurse and had to enforce the vaccination-for-attendance for migrant workers' children. Some of these children must have been vaccinated multiple times over. At least this was back in the 70s-80s when there were fewer vaccines on the schedule, but it must be even worse today!

One of the parents I spoke to who took her child in for re-vaccination said that the health clinic had lost ALL of its children's records because of a computer malfunction. This was a free or low-income clinic, from what I understand, and according to this parent many parents just brought their children back in because it was free. The schools were telling any parents who used that clinic that their kids all needed to be re-vaccinated to enter school, since the records were lost right before sixth grade began (I think) and proof of boosters were needed.

A friend of mine said she thought this sounded like some kind of twisted sick social experiment. I tend to agree.

It happened to me when I was 16 although it was only for a measles vax. I immigrated to the US when I was 16. I had been vaxed twice for measles before but I didn't have a record of the second measles vax. My father was told I needed another measles vax in order to be admitted to school.

I have received my entire set of childhood vaccinations again twice as an adult ...military lost my shot records once, then I lost the shot records the other time. I had to get them redone all at once, too! This is why I'm really nervous about these new online/electronic shot record thingies the pediatricians are using now. I tried to get mine to manually fill out the classic yellow shot book and they refused.

apparently it happens a lot with adopted children as well, who receive the vaxes required in their native country, but without records, or without doctor's confidence that those vaccines were up to standards, receive them all over again in the US.
