How many newborn covers?

I didn't start with CD's until ds was four weeks. I've decided to buy a small stash of newborn dipes to get this baby going. Ds was small (6 lbs 15 oz) but he gained quickly, so if this babe is similar I don't want to get too many. Ds easily fit the infant prefolds at 4-5 weeks.
I was going to get 24 newborn prefolds, but I'm not sure how many wraps. I've considered getting 2 bummis super brights and 4 thirsties duos (because I need a few more small anyway). Do think this will be enough? I'm thinking of overflowing newborn poop?....... if the covers are going to get dirty with each changing.

If you are folding and fastening your prefolds with a snappi or pins, 6 covers should be enough. If you are tri-folding and laying the diaper into the cover, I would get a few more. You can always sell them when they are outgrown. I did only tri-folding (now I know better ) and had about 10 covers.

I agree with the previous poster....between 6 and 8 should be good.

I had 4, but really could have used 5 or 6. I did snappi and use some fitteds. I also used Thirsties, which I could wipe clean instead of Bummis, which would have to be washed.

rule of thumb is usually six per size. maybe less for older children.
