Wow. Elul. I can't believe it's Elul.

Happy birthday Ruth!

I'm here - been pretty busy running around - which is unusual for me. Not too much is new here. Rashi is doing a yeast detox - poor little guy -it's been rough on him. Nachman has a migraine . I'm wondering what's causing them...

Happy Birthday, Ruth

We're officially moved in. I wouldn't say settled, or even wholly unpacked, but we're here. The kitchen has been kashered, we are finally eating home cooked meals again.

Checked out our first shul this weekend and although it is the closest one (3 min walk - maybe) I'm not sure it's the best fit. I've never actually done this before, shul shopping. In WI we only had one choice, and in CA I had worked for Hillel for so long I knew all kinds of groovy places full of ruach.

happy birthday ruth.

I can't beleive its elul. I keep thinking I've been going to my current shul for a few weeks, and then realize its been months! its been all summer and summer is almost gone. (thank goodness for hot septembers, I haven't gotten nearly my fill of summer or summer fruit).

doing pretty good. my mum and step-dad invited us to their rented beach house for a couple days which was sooooo fun and relaxing. we loved going swimming together, and playing on the beach and just hanging out, both in the fog and the sun.

It was kind of traumatic leaving for me, because I felt like I was being kicked out, and I no longer belong with my family, and didn't want to come home to our studio which I was feeling didn't really feel like home, since it lacks the life children bring to it, but it rather does feel somewhat like home, and I'm so happy living with my DP. Every day, I thank G-d for bringing him to me and me to him, and finally bringing him near to me. It seems a miracle to touch him. We were long distance for so long that his arm around me, laying next to him, even just our toes touching while we lay around reading, seems like a miracle. I'm so grateful, and enjoying my life.

Chodesh tov. We are finally fully moved in (were camping in the house without stuff for nearly 3 weeks, but the movers came ... on Friday morning).

Happy Birthday, Ruth.

BB, hope you have an easy and wonderful birth!

Happy B-day Ruth!

BB -- it's been my experience that when kids get sick, the baby decides to be born (My first had pneumonia when my second was born. Lovely, ain't it. He was being treated for MRSA when the third showed up. Murphy is great) -- B'shaah Tova and R"S to all those in your family who could use one.

Magelet -- keep on enjoying life and recognizing all the blessings you have!

FG -- it's so good to start fresh, and enjoy home cooking. Unpack before you get into the rut of procrastination. My parents still have unpacked boxes from their move 15 years ago! (Why can't we throw them out?!?!)

Nick -- same back at you. Hatzlacha with school! We start next week. I hope my kid adjusts ok because he's terrible at adjusting.

My sister is coming to town this year for school. I can't wait till she arrives next week because it will help me out tremendously to have someone to watch the kids if I just need a break (Don't worry -- she loves them, and already agreed to it. She's dorming 2 blocks away from me!)

Wow! Schools don't start here until September 9th or so. I still don't know if DD1 is going to yeshiva or public school, or the exact date the yeshiva starts. I know the public schools start on the 9th. And homeschooling starts whenever I want it to. In many ways, I've already started with DS this year, but it won't feel "official" until the girls are in school.

Mazal tov, BB!

Hi! Long time no see! I've been busy and, well, doing other things on the computer, but I have missed my Jewish mamas.

DS started walking this summer, just before turning 18 months. I was so tired of shlepping! DD2 just started gan today, and DD1 is starting 3rd grade, but she wishes she were starting gan. I loved kindergarten. It's so sad when you grow up and don't get to be in kindergarten any more. I miss it too.

Hi mamas, I don't normally post in this thread but I need a bit of advice.

DS1 has recently started at a Montessori preschool and a big part of the curriculum is culture. We are the only family that is not white and some Christian denomination so the directress has asked that we provide snacks and a book relating to several of the Jewish holidays and festivals.

First up is Rosh Hashanah. Snack will be apples and honey of course, but I am at a loss for a book. We have Happy Birthday World by Latifa Berry Kropf and Today is the Birthday of the World by Linda Keller and both are great books if your Jewish, but are slightly too religious to be read to a group of Christian children.

So does anyone have a good explanatory book about Rosh Hashanah that would be appropriate for non-Jewish 3-6 year olds?

Thanks!
